A REALM OF RETURN

The trauma of war spares no one
Everyone understands how much suffering the war causes, but Vietnamese refugee women are well aware of these pains. Whether grown up during war time or born afterwards, they were all victims of war and many of them still carry the smoldering pains for the rest of their lives, such pains that not many people could share.

Thanh Tam

Director

Thanh Tam has been well known by many overseas Vietnamese in North America since she was the Director of SBTN Canada (2014 – 2019), and founded Vomedia (2014). Since 2017, she co-founded and is the director of VIETLIVE TV, one of the most successful social media programs of overseas Vietnamese, watched and followed by millions of Vietnamese around the world.</p> <p>In 2018, she joined the Toronto Film School’s film director training program and graduated with Her Little Rose, a short film which won many awards in international film festivals: USA, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Singapore, Venezuela, India…

Anthony Vanderburgh

Film music score

Anthony Vanderburgh is an Emmy Award winning composer (Theme song for the television series '6TEEN'), a multiple SOCAN Award winner, and a Juno Award winner. Vanderburgh has composed music for over 200 episodes of television. He recently produced Canadian songwriting legend Dan Hill's ``On The Other Side Of Here`` album

Bùi Ái Linh

Ái Linh Bùi was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1975. She moved to Canada (1996) and graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Mathematics Major in 2006. She worked in the insurance business for 12 years. After joining Nu Skin company for 2 years, she officially left her insurance business and has worked full time with NuSkin for the past three years, with a personal mission of helping everyone attain YOUTH, BEAUTY, HEALTH and achieve a quality life. Ái Linh currently resides in Kitchener, Ontario with her husband Andy Nguyen and children.

John Nguyen

John Nguyen was born on February 16, 1958, the son of a former soldier/officer VNCH before 1975. After 1975, he was a teacher at Phung Hiep High School, Hau Giang. And substitute lecturer at Ton Duc Thang University, Saigon. In 1993, he settled in Canada and taught Vietnamese at several Catholic and public schools. John was a radio host at ThoiBao Radio and anchor at SBTN Canada and Vietlive TV. John Nguyen, now retired, enjoys acting as a hobby with passion.

Jamyang Kunga Tenzin

Producer

A Tibetan born and raised in India, moved to Canada 6 years ago to pursue his dream of becoming a filmmaker. Jamyang graduated from Toronto Film School with many awards including best producer Toronto film school 2020 and best production designer Toronto film school 2020. He has worked on a few feature films and produced 5 short films. ‘A Realm of Return’ is Jamyang’s biggest and longest production so far involving 150 crew and cast and shot over 10 locations.

Richard Segal

Sound Designer

Richard Segal is a sound designer, editor and mixer, creating audio for film, television and more for the past 25 years. Richards clients include media and production companies in Canada, the USA and overseas, with mix studios in Toronto and Los Angeles.</p> <p>From an early age Richard Segal has studied music and recording, with an emphasis on creativity and innovation.</p> <p>Richard has built professional sound studios, and designed inter-active mix environments bringing together clients from around the world. Richard works on a wide range of material from live action, to animation, gaming, interactive programming, documentary, advertising and more.</p> <p>Some of the projects Richard is working on include Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Charlie’s Colorform City, as well as creative projects for Disney +, Marvel, Chastity Bites and other sound work for Netflix, Amazon and PBS.

Benjamin Vo

Benjamin Vo is proud and excited to be a part of the cast of A Realm of Return. A financial advisor by trade, he was honoured to be chosen for an important role in a film that defines the Immigrant Vietnamese community’s past and current struggles. Being a child of immigrant parents who fled communism in Vietnam, he felt a great sense of purpose and pride to be depicting a character in the film who experienced the same hardship that his parents would have experienced. Although finance is his field of specialty and focus, Benjamin really enjoys the artistic and technical aspects of the film industry, in which he occasionally finds himself participating in minor roles on television shows (Saving Hope 2012) and independent short films such as Diaspora (2011) and Blue Haze (2021).</p> <p>In his free time, Benjamin loves to run and hike on new trails, practice martial arts, and play sports with friends. He remains very active in the Vietnamese Community in Toronto and enjoys participating in fundraising activities and historical education events for various Vietnamese organizations as well as providing a leadership role in Vietnamese student groups and summer camps.

Võ Kim Dung

Võ Kim Dung was born in Saigon, Vietnam. She went to Gia Long high school in Saigon, then on to College majoring in Accounting. She left Vietnam by boat in 1984, eventually landing in Galang refugee camp in Indonesia. Eight months later she was accepted to Canada in May 1985. Once in Canada, she graduated from George Brown College in Toronto for Accounting. Her present position is an office administrator for Canadian Tire Corporation. Kim Dung is well-known as a singer and stage performer in Toronto’s Vietnamese community since 1986. She won third prize in a Vietnamese singing competition in San Jose, California in 1992 and has recently completed a number of music videos. In addition, she also enjoys playing guitar.

Moataz Mosallam comes from Egypt. He is working in the Camera and Electrical Department/Cinematographer /Actor. He is well known for his work on Zombie Goes Zombie, El Ott (2014) and Decor(2014)

Ayush Anand

Editor

Ayush Anand is a Picture Editor and Filmmaker from Pune, India. Over the years he developed his childhood hobby of making videos, and is now working as an Established Picture Editor in the Canadian and Indian Film Industry for 7 years. He is a Civil Engineer who later graduated from Toronto Film School, and since then he has Edited numerous Documentaries, Docs-Series, Films, Music Videos and his peak interest and area of expertise are in Cutting Film Trailers & Promos.

RayHa Truong

Born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, she is the youngest in a family of four children. In 2017, RayHa Truong starred in her first documentary film, Canada: The Story of Us, directed by Tim Wolochatiuk. Currently thirty years old, RayHa Truong is a News Anchor in Toronto, while pursuing her dream of travelling the world. RayHa’s goal has always been about living life to the fullest, and creating her own happiness.

Giáng Châu Ghent

Giang -Chau Ghent was born in Hue, the Imperial city of Vietnam. Her father was a Colonel in the South Vietnamese army. In April 1975 the North Vietnamese Communists invaded the south and her father was placed in a re-education camp for 6 years. Few years later after his release with poor health, he passed away. Chau’s mother is a first cousin of Bao Dai, the last emperor of Vietnam. After Bao Dai resigned and moved to France, Chau’s mother assisted Tu Cung, the Empress dowager with correspondence with the Emperor in exile. She also worked as a singer for Hue radio station and 2 military stations. In July 1979, Chau and 2 siblings left Vietnam as boat people and after many ordeals arrived in Canada in November 1979. In her first year in Canada Chau learned English and started a successful handknit business, Tam-Minh Custom Knitwear which employed 40 Vietnamese workers. Chau’s sweaters were sold all throughout Canada. Proceeds from the business allowed Chau to make a successful application which would later allow the rest of her family to be united in Canada. The next phase in Chau’s life was to get married to David Ghent and devote the next 8 years at home raising a family. Early summer 1996 Chau and David started a successful wholesale and retail floral business. During this time Chau and her husband supported many good causes including Zonta Club, Rotary Club, the multicultural festival Carabram, The Vietnamese Association of Toronto ,Golden Age Village for Vietnamese elders. Chau taught floral design on several Vietnamese language television programs. Currently Chau balances home life, grandchildren and being active in the floral business as a consultant and for events. She has co-authored a book with Susan Garrod-Schuster about her life which will be published soon.
